The Charleston Museum

The Charleston, South Carolina area is a great place to live or have a vacation home. The Charleston Museum


The Charleston Museum is America’s first museum, it was founded in 1773. The Charleston Museum’s mission is to preserve the cultural and natural history of Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Explore the rich social, natural, and architectural heritage of Charleston and the Lowcountry and it’s to National Historic Landmark houses the Joseph Manigault House built in 1803 and the Heyward – Washington House built in 1772.

Whether you have an interest in military history, southern decorative art, or southern prehistoric animals, the Charleston Museum has something for everyone. Make sure the kids explore Kidstory where they will experience a hands on perspective of Charleston and Lowcountry history.

The Museum is located at 360 Meeting Street in downtown historic Charleston. The Joseph Manigault House is located at 350 Meeting Street in historic downtown Charleston. The Heyward – Washington House is located at 87 Church Street in historic downtown Charleston.
