Eastside

Like the Ansonborough neighborhood once had, Charleston’s Eastside Neighborhood has gradually declined from one of the finest residential areas in anti-bellum Charleston, to a point where tenements and slums have began to predominate. But also like the Ansonborough Neighborhood, the Eastside Neighborhood has started to make a comeback as a neighborhood in transition.

During the past six months Charleston’s Eastside neighborhood had 1 home sold at price of $215,000. See Charleston SC Real Estate to search for homes.
Eastside is bounded on the north by the South side of Harris Street, to the South side of Jackson Street, to the South side of Lee Street and on the south side by the North side of Chapel Street, to the North on America Street, to the North side of Mary Street. The eastern boundary is the West side of East Bay Street and the western boundary is the East side of Meeting Street.

Westside

Charleston’s Westside neighborhood is predominantly a residential community in transition. There are many renovations and a few new constructions ongoing at all times. The Westside community is a very diverse community with college students, professors, medical professionals, workers in diverse fields of employment along with life long residents.

During the past six months Charleston’s Eastside neighborhood had 4 homes sold at price of $183,400. See Charleston SC Real Estate to search for homes.

Mazyck-Wraggborough

Charleston’s Mazyck-Wraggborough neighborhood, also known as the “Garden District”, revitalization and restoration are underway. Developed in the 18th century by the antebellum elite who wanted "Villas" outside the Walled City, Mazyck-Wraggborough remains a repository of Museum quality houses. This borough is sought-after by buyers who appreciate fine architecture, but do not want to spend the prices of neighborhoods further south. Mazyck-Wraggborough is convenient for those liking to walk. Shopping on Saturday's at the Farmer's Market is a fun, social outing. For smart shops, award winning chefs, and the latest martini, King Street is just a short stroll away!

Mazyck-Wraggborough is a neighborhood of diversity. Mazyck-Wraggborough remains a repository of museum properties: The Aiken-Rhett House, the Joseph Manigault House, and the William Rhett House. A recent gated town house neighborhood adds a new dimension.

Mazyck-Wraggborough is bounded on the north by the South side of Mary Street and on the south by North side of Calhoun Street. The eastern boundary is the West side of America Street, to West side of Alexander Street, to South side of Chapel Street, to the West side of East Bay Street; the western boundary is the East side of King Street.

Cannonborough/Elliotborough

The Charleston neighborhood running parallel to the Crosstown may be run-down in parts, but Cannonborough-Elliotborough is probably the most diverse residential area in Charleston. Blue-collar workers, college students, and young families live side-by-side, and the streets are typically full of people on their porches and mingling on the sidewalk. There are many restaurants and small business throughout the area.

During the past six months Charleston’s Cannonborough/Elliotborough neighborhood had 4 homes sold at price of $360,000. See Charleston SC Real Estate to search for homes.

Radcliffeborough

Charleston’s Radcliffeborough neighborhood began as farmland purchased and surveyed by Thomas Radcliffe in 1786. Thomas’ estate and his widow, Lucretia continued to develop the borough after Thomas was lost at sea in 1806. In 1811, the Third Episcopal Church was built on four lots donated by Mrs. Radcliffe for this purpose. St. Paul’s convenient local and grand appearance attracted rice planters from the neck to worship alongside homes built by merchants and mechanics, several free black families (from before the Civil War) as well as slaves living apart from their masters and after the war, newly freed slaves.

Today, Radcliffeborough is as racially and economically mixed as it was then but its boundaries have grown from its original eight blocks to span from King Street to Ashley Avenue and from Bee Street, to Calhoun. Its topography has changed as well and would seem incredibly different to Thomas Radcliffe. In his time and even up to 1846, Calhoun Street did not exist. The area that would eventually become Calhoun was a millpond and Comings Creek ran through the land where the Cathedral of St. Paul now stands.

During the past six months Charleston’s Radcliffeborough neighborhood had 8 homes sold at an average price of $512,038. See Charleston SC Real Estate to search for homes.

Radcliffeborough is bounded on the north side by the South side of Morris Street and one block to Bee Street, and on the south side by the North side of Calhoun Street. The eastern boundary is the West side of King Street and the western boundary is the East side of Ashley Avenue.

French Quarter

The name recognizes the high concentration of French merchants in the area's history. It was settled as part of the original Grande Modell of Charles Towne in 1680. It is famous for its art galleries; it also has many restaurants and places of commerce as well as Charleston's Waterfront Park.

Charleston's French Quarter is home to many fine historic buildings, among them, the Pink House Tavern, built around 1712, and the Slave Mart, built by Z.B.Oakes in 1859. Also in the French Quarter are the Dock Street Theatre, arguably the first site of theatrical productions in the United States, and the French Huguenot Church, a beautiful Gothic-style church which houses the sole-surviving French Calvinist Congregation in the United States. St. Philip's Episcopal Church, the first congregation in Charleston, whose current building dates to 1835, is also in the French Quarter. St. Philip's cemetery is the final resting place of Edward Rutledge, the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence, and U.S. Senator and Vice President John C. Calhoun, whose large tomb is empty; his bones were removed during the Civil War to protect them from capture by invading Union forces, and have never been recovered.
During the past six months Charleston’s French Village neighborhood had 7 homes sold at an average price of $850,571. See Charleston SC Real Estate to search for homes.
Charleston’s French Village is bounded on the north by the South Side of Cumberland and the southern boundary is North side of Broad Street. The eastern boundary is the West side of East Bay Street and the western boundary is the East side of meeting Street.

Ansonborough

Charleston’s Ansonborough was named after Lord Anson of England who won the property in a spirited poker game with famous Charlestonian Thomas Gadsden. Lord Anson was sent to Charleston in 1724 to protect the coast of South Carolina from pirates. Admiral Anson was by no means a mere gentleman with a title; he was an exceptional sailor by any standard. He was the third Englishman to circumnavigate the globe. On his many voyages he captured Spanish ships filled with treasures. The most celebrated being in the mid-1740's when he abducted a Spanish vessel carrying booty worth a million and a quarter pounds of sterling.

During the past six months Charleston’s Ansonborough neighborhood had 7 homes for sold at an average price of $866,135. See Charleston SC Real Estate to search for homes.

Charleston’s Ansonborough is bounded on the north by the South side of George Street and the southern boundary is the North side of Pinckney Street. The eastern boundary is the West side of East Bay Street and the western boundary is the East side of Meeting Street.

Queen Anne’s Revenge Restaurant on Charleston’s Daniel Island

Lois and I ate at Queen Anne’s Revenge yesterday on Daniel Island prior to attending the Zack Brown Concert at the Family Circle Tennis Center. This was our first time at Queen Anne’s Revenge. We took advantage of the Early Bird Specials menu (4-6PM). The atmosphere was great, the food and service was better, and the pirate’s museum was unbelievable. Queen Anne’s Revenge is a must do for any “pirate lover”, or anyone who likes great steak or seafood.

Queen Anne’s Revenge was first full-service restaurant to operate on Charleston’s Daniel Island. Queen Anne’s Revenge is filled with one of the largest collections of authentic pirate artifacts in the country. Named after Blackbeard’s famous ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge is dedicated to exploring the “Golden Age of Piracy,” circa 1690-1730, through unique collections of artifacts and information regarding many of the era’s most famous pirates. Queen Anne’s Revenge provides an experience unlike any other on the South Carolina coast.

Charleston Lowcounrty Resort Community Information

The Charleston, South Carolina area is a great place to live or have a vacation home. The weather is great, the beaches are fantastic, golf courses are abundant, there are many historical sites, the architecture is unbelievable, the dining is unbeatable, and the people are the friendliest in the country. It is because of these reasons that I believe Charleston SC Real Estate is truly unique. I look forward to helping you with any of your Charleston SC real estate needs in Charleston, Berkeley, or Dorchester counties. Today’s article is titled:

Charleston Lowcounrty Resort Community Information

Let’s begin by defining a Charleston SC resort community. A resort community, sometimes called a resort city or resort destination, is a town or area where tourism or vacationing is a primary component of the local culture and economy. Typically, the economy of a resort community is geared almost entirely towards catering to tourists. The typical Charleston resort communities has nice beaches, oceanfront luxury homes, shops and luxury boutiques selling locally-themed souvenirs, motels, golf courses, tennis courts, and unique restaurants within their boundaries. I believe there are five resort communities in the greater Charleston SC area I will explore; they are Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Folly Beach, Daniel Island, and Wild Dunes.

Kiawah Island

Kiawah (Key-a-wah) Island perpetuates the name of the Kiawah Indian tribe who used the Island for hunting and fishing during the 1600s. In 1675, the Kiawah Indians ceded the Island to the English Lords' Proprietor, Anthony Ashley Cooper, Earl of Shaftsbury. Kiawah Island is approximately 10 miles long and 1 mile wide and the beach is over 300 feet wide at low tide. There approximately 1,300 full time residents. Today Kiawah Island is a private resort and residential community that combines exclusive style with relaxed island living. Picture a place where tradition, tranquility, and respect for nature create an exceptional lifestyle for individuals seeking luxury real estate for a primary residence or vacation home. Located just 30 minutes south of historic Charleston SC, this sun-washed barrier island offers both sophistication and simplicity. Here you can dine in five-star luxury or spread a simple picnic on the beach. There are 20 miles of bike paths. Wildlife abounds on the island. There are five golf courses on the island the Ocean Course, Osprey Course, Turtle Course, and Ocean Course are public golf courses and the River Course is a private course.

During the past six months 17 single family homes listed in MLS sold with the average selling price of $946,235.

Seabrook Island

Seabrook is a private island resort Edged by 3 miles of wide beaches and pristine dunes along the South Carolina coast with a population just over 1,300. Nestled between the Folly River and the Atlantic Ocean, just fifteen minutes from downtown Charleston, the barrier island of Folly Beach truly offers you the best of both worlds. Locals refer to our little corner of the world as the "Edge of America". When you wake up in the morning you'll enjoy the sunrise on the beach and finish your day watching a spectacular sunset on the Folly River. On the eastern tip of the Island you'll find an outstanding view of the Morris Island Lighthouse from one of our three county parks. The Folly Beach Fishing Pier, which extends more than 1,045 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, hosts fishing tournaments . . . and if you want to fish, you can rent everything you need at the shop on the Folly Beach Pier. Folly Beach has some of the best surfing on the east coast and holds several surfing events yearly.

Spanning 4,000 acres and surrounded by rivers, creeks and Charleston Harbor, Daniel Island boasts 23 miles of shoreline, offering residents access to boating, fishing, swimming, crabbing and other aquatic pursuits.
