1. The Legend Oaks Plantation Golf Club course offers a traditional style course more akin to the Pinehurst style. Legend Oaks features a classic layout nestled in Charleston’s historic plantations area.

2. Pine Forest Country Club golf course has a four star rating by Golf Digest. Golf digest also describes the course as “The Hidden Gem in Charleston”. Located in Summerville and only a few miles off of I-26 Pine forest is the perfect golf course to stop at on you way out of Charleston.

3. Golf Club at Wescott Plantation golf course is designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and was selected for the 2007 Hooters Professional Golf tour and as a Nationwide Tour qualifier in 2006. This 27 hole golf course is set among live oaks and built on an old plantation. The design features traditional earthworks and classic bunkering.

4. Coosaw Creek Country Club golf course is designed by Arthur Hill and is a par 71, 6,593 yard semi-private course with plenty of Lowcountry character. Blessed with unusual rolling terrain this is a challenging course with undulating greens and a variety of longer drives and strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.

The course flows seamlessly through interior forests of hardwoods and palmettos, along blackwater lagoons, and finally to three spectacular holes along the Atlantic Ocean.

18. Kiawah Island Golf Resort The Ocean Course is one of Pete Dye’s most superb designs. The Ocean Course has been selected as the host site for the 2012 PGA Championship. It first received attention as the host of the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches. In 2007 it hosted the Senior PGA Championship. The Ocean course was named by Golf Digest as “America’s Toughest Course”. The Ocean course is a 7,356 yard course which offers spectacular views along tow and half miles of the Atlantic Ocean.

The 31st Annual Charleston South Carolina 2010 Piccolo Spoleto Crafts event is located in Wragg Square at the intersection of Meeting Street and Charlotte Street in downtown historic Charleston. Lois and I went to the 2010 Piccolo Spoleto Crafts event Saturday. The weather was great and the Craft show was even better. There are nearly 100 exhibitors, each with a unique craft. I highly recommend you check it out.
The Piccolo Spoleto craft event has evolved into one of the premier regional craft fairs and features two weekend events, in combination with daily demonstrations at the Charleston Crafts Gallery located at 161 Church Street in historic Charleston South Carolina.
Charleston Crafts, Inc. was began in 1989 as a pilot project of Piccolo Spoleto, local artists formed a cooperative venture to present an ongoing display of crafts to the public. In addition to featuring the work of local Charleston artists the membership endeavors to involve the public in the diverse craft arts produced here in the Lowcountry. Anyone interested in supporting the goals of Charleston Crafts is invited to join as an associate member. Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island – One of America’s Top 10 Beaches
Charleston County’s Beachwalker Park is located on the western end of Kiawah Island and is about 30 minutes from downtown Charleston. Tennis and golf are featured here, as well as interpretative tours of the fauna and flora of the island. This is certainly a nature-lovers coast, so visitors should pack their canoes and kayaks to paddle through the tidal inlets or walk down to St. Sam’s Inlet to see thousands of birds. The water is not clear here, but it is clean and provides for fantastic seafood for low-country cooking. Visitors can also pack their bicycles, since the sand is compact enough to ride along the 10-mile long barrier island.
Beachwalker Park (Kiawah Island, SC): Kiawah Island's Beachwalker Park is eighth on the list of Top 10 Beaches produced annually by coastal expert Stephen P. Leatherman, also known as 'Dr. Beach,' director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research. Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, known throughout the United States and internationally as Dr. Beach, is regarded as the country's leading authority on beach quality and ratings. A Ph.D. coastal scientist, professor of environmental studies and Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University and acclaimed author, Dr. Leatherman is perhaps best known for his annual America's Best Beaches Top 10 List.
Dr. Leatherman's first Top Beach list was issued in 1991. Since then, every year around Memorial Day, beachgoers and beach communities anxiously await his latest list of the ten best public recreational beaches for swimming, walking, scenery, sports, and other activities. Beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean are objectively evaluated using a rating scale that covers 50 different criteria, ranging from beach width, sand quality, water temperature and strengths of currents to human impact issues such as lifeguards, the presence of litter and undesirable noise.
The list of 2010 top ten beaches includes the same four beaches in the Southeast U.S. as last year's list, two in Florida, one in North Carolina and one in South Carolina: Cape Hatteras moved up three places, from seventh place to fourth place this year. Kiawah Island's Beachwalker Park moved up two places, from tenth to eighth place. Florida's Siesta Beach remained in second place and Cape Florida State Park dipped a few spots from eighth to tenth place.

How Green is Your Attic?

How Green is Your Attic?
According to the Department of energy 44% of an average household’s energy dollars is for heating and air conditioning. For a relatively modest investment in insulation materials and labor, a consumer can lower those costs on an ongoing basis and generate a rapid payback.
Though insulating a home is green in itself, some alternatives are greener than others. Some use recycled materials while others use new technology, while others use older products made in a more earth friendly way.
5 Green Insulation Options
1. Cotton insulation is made from recycled scrap generated during denim manufacturing. It is flame resistant and is about twice as costly as fiberglass with about the same R-factor.
2. Mineral wool insulation is made from steel slag or natural rock that is manufactured into a flame resistant fiber. It contains over 75% recycled materials. It is moisture resistant and holds its R-value when wet. It can be used in below grade applications.
3. Fiberglass made from abundant silica and has been made greener through the inclusion of post consumer and post industrial recycled materials.
4. Cellulose is today’s green loose fill insulation of choice. It is composed of roughly 75% recycled shredded newsprint treated to be flame resistant. Cellulose is not advisable to use in areas prone to moisture.
5. Polyiso is considered the most environmentally friendly spray foam and rigid foam board. It has a higher R-value than batt, and loose fill insulation and can be used anywhere in a home except below grade.
With all the above insulation alternatives above , proper installation is the key to tightening a home. Poorly installed insulation that leaves gaps or is not well sited to the moisture levels can compromise the R-value of the insulation. Some installations may qualify for a tax credit.

How Green is Your Attic?
According to the Department of energy 44% of an average household’s energy dollars is for heating and air conditioning. For a relatively modest investment in insulation materials and labor, a consumer can lower those costs on an ongoing basis and generate a rapid payback.
Though insulating a home is green in itself, some alternatives are greener than others. Some use recycled materials while others use new technology, while others use older products made in a more earth friendly way.
5 Green Insulation Options
1. Cotton insulation is made from recycled scrap generated during denim manufacturing. It is flame resistant and is about twice as costly as fiberglass with about the same R-factor.
2. Mineral wool insulation is made from steel slag or natural rock that is manufactured into a flame resistant fiber. It contains over 75% recycled materials. It is moisture resistant and holds its R-value when wet. It can be used in below grade applications.
3. Fiberglass made from abundant silica and has been made greener through the inclusion of post consumer and post industrial recycled materials.
4. Cellulose is today’s green loose fill insulation of choice. It is composed of roughly 75% recycled shredded newsprint treated to be flame resistant. Cellulose is not advisable to use in areas prone to moisture.
5. Polyiso is considered the most environmentally friendly spray foam and rigid foam board. It has a higher R-value than batt, and loose fill insulation and can be used anywhere in a home except below grade.
With all the above insulation alternatives above , proper installation is the key to tightening a home. Poorly installed insulation that leaves gaps or is not well sited to the moisture levels can compromise the R-value of the insulation. Some installations may qualify for a tax credit.

South Carolina April 2010 Market Analysis
The Charleston, South Carolina area is a great place to live or have a vacation home. South Carolina April 2010 Market Analysis
As expected, buyers in South Carolina took advantage of the federal first-time home buyer tax credit last month, which officially came to a close on April 30. Pending Sales were up 16.3 percent versus last year at this time, with 4,802 contracts written. That is the highest number of pending sales since April 2008. Closed Sales were also up 25.0 percent to 4,196.
To capitalize on buyer activity, sellers added 10,863 new listings to the market in April, an increase of 22.3 percent compared to last year. They may have also been encouraged by the Median Sales Price which was up 4.4 percent to $144,000. This influx of listings has pushed the Months Supply of Inventory up 3.7 percent to 14.9, and inventory itself was also up 3.2 percent to 56,844. This is also a high mark. In fact, it's the most properties available in South Carolina since modern methods of data tracking began in 2007.

Hege’s Kiawah is located at Freshfields Village adjacent to both Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island. My wife, Lois, and I ate there last evening celebrating her birthday. May is always a busy family month for me (our youngest son’s birthday, or other son’s wife’s birthday, Mother’s Day, our wedding anniversary, and Lois’ birthday).
The food at Hege’s Kiawah is excellent, the service is great, and the cost is surprisingly affordable. We both took advantage of the three course dinner special for $31.95, and there are many other excellent options on the menu.
Richard Hege, is the owner / Chef Hege's Kiawah at Freshfields Village, Kiawah Island. The cuisine at Hege's is based on simplicity, light natural sauces and recognizable menu items. Hege's uses fresh seasonal products cooked and served the way they were intended to be, and service is based on appreciative hospitality. The restaurant is French-inspired in its food and decor while the atmosphere is casual and inviting.
Hege's private and semi-private dining rooms provide a perfect setting for upscale cocktail parties, great sit-down dinners, business functions, rehearsal parties, charity events, and other personal occasions. The restaurant and bar encourages patrons to stop by after work or play for cocktails and great appetizers.
Heges Kiawah opens Tuesday – Saturday at 5:30 PM and on Sunday at 5:00 PM. They are closed on Monday.

Charleston Spoleto Festival USA 2010
The Charleston Spoleto Festival USA 2010 will run from May 28th to June 13th. Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina, is one of the world's major performing arts festivals.
It was founded in 1977 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, who sought to establish a counterpart to the Festival dei Due Mondi (the Festival of Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy. The annual 17-day event showcases both established and emerging artists in more than 120 performances of opera, dance, theater, classical music, and jazz.
When Italian organizers planned an American festival, they searched for a city that would offer the charm of Spoleto, Italy, and also its wealth of theaters, churches, and other performance spaces. Charleston was selected as the ideal location. Historic Charleston provided a perfect fit: intimate enough that the Festival would captivate the entire city, yet cosmopolitan enough to provide an enthusiastic audience and robust infrastructure.
